NASSAU COUNTY ARES ACTIVATION PROCEDURE

(This procedure will eventually be incorporated into a comprehensive Nassau County ARES communications plan.)

1.     Upon activation monitor the NCARS (146.835 -) repeater, this will also be the primary frequency for Shelter to EOC communications.

2.     Upon arrival at assigned shelter notify the Red Cross shelter manager of your presence.

3.     When equipment set up is complete report ready to operate to EOC.

4.     Meet again with the shelter manager, briefly go over the hourly report requirements and inquire from whom you shall get this information prior to reporting.

5.     Reports need to be made to the EOC at 50 minutes past the hour, from the attached form read off each block from left to right.

6.     On the message log record start/stop times of your time manning station, and any significant incidents ie.. power or phone loss, injury to evacuee, building damage etc.. and report same to EOC.

7.     In the event of loss of primary repeater NCARS (146.835 -) we will shift to the backup repeaters/frequencies in the following order as needed:

         A.   N4PAO (147.00-)

         B.   Nassau simplex  (146.43)

8.     If any station notes that the EOC is not responding to reports from a station, query the EOC if they are copying that station, if the EOC is not copying relay that stations report.

9.     When reporting to the EOC begin call with tactical call sign ie..  Hilliard Middle – EOC, and end report with your actual FCC assigned call.
